Cutters forever...

So we’re already past all of the scorn that bikers have for drivers and drivers have for bikers.  And walkers are having to deal with all of it.  But with the increasing number of arrogant bikers on the road and their careless attitude toward the rules of traffic, I predict that the end of this summer will see bike-on-bike violence like we haven’t seen since The Wild One.

Somebody on a bike is going to run a stop sign at the same time that another somebody is running the same stop sign.  And you, people of America, are tasked with making sure your Flip Video or your phone camera is ready to capture the mayhem.  Because at long last, bicyclists are going to start figuring out what a bunch of dicks bicyclists can be.  Keep your eyes open for Hipster vs. Spandex, Critical Mass vs. Bike Commuters, Messengers vs. Bike Cops – there are many possible combinations.  And all of those bikers secretly hate everyone who isn’t them.  Let the world see their anger.  To be clear – don’t start anything!  Just be there to capture a video when these idiots throw down.

She worked hard in college, and racked up nearly $100,000 in loans.  It doesn’t seem fair.  You should be able to get an education for a reasonable amount, and should be able to somehow work it off.  The purpose of college is to train you to DO something, right?  If the education you receive has any value, an ambitious and driven graduate should be able to find a way to get those skills into the system.  That’s how college works for most people.

Then I saw what she had spent that $100K on.

“She recently received a raise and now makes $22 an hour working for a photographer. It’s the highest salary she’s earned since graduating with an interdisciplinary degree in religious and women’s studies.”

Seriously?  I can understand the appeal of following your desires no matter the cost, and even the optimism of taking a leap and hoping that everything works out.  But borrowing that much money to fund a degree that has NO HOPE of paying back the loan is ridiculous.  That’s a scholarship degree, or a rich kid’s degree, or at the very least, a degree you earn for fun while you work in the lumber mill.

The news wires are awash in stories of Americans who have overextended themselves.  Everyone is looking for a bailout – it might be better to make more frugal choices.  But hey, it landed this chick on the Your Money section of the New York Times.  Maybe she will turn it into something after all, like that whiny chick who maxed out all of her credit cards and went to the Web to panhandle for relief.  If that’s what we have become, I guess it’s pointless to fight it.

Man, fuck this guy.

He and his band of merry goofball hipsters were playing street golf in Capitol Hill a while back (May 2009, I think), big group of dudes – 20 or 30 I think, and when they were around the Boylston/Pike area, one drunk asshole golfer sliced his ball into the face of some guy walking by.  It’s a dense foam ball – the passerby wasn’t injured aside from a little sting.  But it pissed him off.  And then this group of drunk golfer shitheads starts heckling this guy they hit.  Dude, that’s hilarious.  Dude, you hit that dude in the face with your ball.  Look at that dude, he’s gonna cry.  That kind of shit.  So hit-in-the-face-dude calls 911 on his cell and the cops come to TCOB.

All I can say is, if that bitch hit me in the face with a golf ball, I don’t care if it was made of cotton candy and happy thoughts, he and his buddies would be squatting on the sidewalk trying to figure out whose teeth belonged to who.  (Whom?)  But of course, in this story, one of the guys who was arrested is a famous hacker and he punched a hole or two in the cops’ boilerplate statements.  I would have been much happier to see that hit-in-the-face-guy went nuts on these fuckheads.  But the story is what it is.  Dude wouldn’t produce and ID for the cops, dude gets the ol’ cuff-and-stuff, dude whines about it nine months later.

But what really has my eyes spinning in my head is the comment threads.  The split favors the arrested guy pretty strongly – mostly on the “say no to the Seattle Gestapo” tip.  You do not have to provide your papers.  The cops are corrupt.  And so on.  But it seems like everybody on every side thinks liberals are the problem.

• “Only a stupid liberal would identify themselves to the cops.”
• “Only a stupid liberal would waste the officers’ time by not complying.”
• “Only a stupid liberal would call the cops because they got hit in the face with a foam golf ball.”
• “Only a stupid liberal would play street golf.”
• “Only a stupid liberal would walk around Capitol Hill wearing English golfing duds, a Tattersall’s hat and fake orange sideburns.”

From now, I will make the distinction between conservatives (who might have a good point, even if I don’t agree with it) and the Teabagger types, who just want to yell and fuss and keep their tax money.  I will make the distinction between liberals (who might have a good point, even if I don’t agree with it) and the anarchists/WTO protestor types who just want to yell and fuss and blame corporations for everything that’s wrong with the world.  The terms will no longer be interchangeable to me.

Is this all just Seattle?  Is any other city in the whole of this United States so completely filled to the brim with jackoffs?  I need to know.

This is Ashley Todd, the woman who claimed she was beaten up for being a McCain supporter, and then had a B carved into her face.  Right before the 2008 election.  Then it turned out she was full of shit, that the black eye was makeup, and that she carved the B into her own face.  I was stunned.  And then it turned out to be a fake, and suddenly it made lots of sense.  Now check these two out…

These two were legitimately attacked in New Orleans on April 9 after a GOP fundraiser. The woman in the picture, Allee Bautsch, is the chief fundraiser for Governor Jindal.  Her leg was broken in the attack.  Her boyfriend, Joe Brown (seated also) was thrown to the ground and beaten as well.  What did the conservative press report?  That they were beaten because they were wearing Sarah Palin pins.  Beaten for being conservatives.  A conservative blogger purposefully misquoted the NOLA police spokesman to say that the attack was politically motivated.

The NOLA police department spokesman flat out says this was not true – he never told the press that this was a politically motivated attack.  The escalation sounds like it was some drunk guys yelling at a dressed-up couple, trying to start a fight.  And there were no Palin pins on either of the victims.

I hate that these two were beaten up. I hate that they were hurt.  But it looks like they were beaten up in the same way that people walking on the streets are beaten up all the time in our big cities.   Apparently, earlier in the day, there were anarchists in with the protestors outside of the event they were exiting, but I don’t think there has been any identification of any protestors.  I think these two were beaten up because it’s the French Quarter of New Orleans at night, and this kind of thing happens.  It sucks, but it happens.

I wish the best for the victims’ recovery.  But the conservative reporting makes me really angry, and I hope these victims choose to denounce it.  Why invent Palin pins?  And since when are anarchists considered to be liberals?  I can’t stand anarchists.  They fucked up my dear city of Seattle in the WTO riots.  They are not on the left.  They are off the map.  That is the definition of anarchy, right?

One comment I read mentioned that with the Ashley Todd situation, the conservative press at least could say that they were hoaxed along with the rest of the country, by Ms. Todd.  With this attack in NOLA, the conservative press invented the hoax part of the story themselves.  They should be ashamed.

Quit making shit up, conservatives!  If you can’t report the truth, don’t report.

West Seattle will be feeling a double dose of rockfists tomorrow night, Saturday April 3.  First off, The Savage Veitch Project.

Swagger?  They got it.  Tunes?  They’re gonna show you tunes.  Shirtless?  Depends on how cold it is in West Seattle tomorrow night, but I’d bet on yes.  I’m looking forward to it.  Show up early, get a plate of sliders and a pint, and take in the show.  They’ll start up around 8:30.

After this performance, and after the crew has had a chance to squeegee the rock sweat off the windows, DHC will plug in and shatter it.  We are gonna bring so much heat, we probably ought to contact the US Meteorological Survey just to assure them that the planet hasn’t wandered off orbit and headed on a path toward the sun.  Everyone will be topless by the end of this one.  We hope to see you there.
